Did you know you can make art with bubbles? This bubble art is a lot of fun for kids to do! Create some simple art for fun or use tape to make an initial or a geometric design.

Bubble Art Project for Kids
Making art with bubbles is such a fun activity for preschoolers or kids of all ages!
Kids can choose what colors they use, add their initial, or just make a fun design with the tape.
You can do an initial on paper or you can do a fun geometric design on a canvas like this:

Supplies You’ll Need to Make Bubble Art
- Food Coloring – we used this concentrated food coloring which gives brighter colors and is also neon colors. NOTE: regular food coloring will not show up, the colors will be very dull and you will not see it on paper or canvas. You need concentrated food coloring or you can use liquid watercolors. Keep in mind with watercolors you want non-toxic in case it goes on the mouth when you’re blowing the bubbles.
- White Cardstock – 12×12 size or a canvas
- Tape – we used masking tape for the canvas and painter’s tape for the white cardstock
How to Make Bubble Art
1. Start by taping your paper or canvas.
Make sure to press the tape down firmly on all sides and edges so that the paint does not leak through. Even with doing this, you may have a small amount leak through.
For paper, you’ll want to use painter’s tape so that it does not rip the paper off when you peel off the tape.
For a canvas, we used masking tape because we found that the painter’s tape did not stick to the canvas surface.
Make a fun geometric design on the canvas, or you can add an initial on the canvas too.
2. Now make your colored bubble solution!
We used small bowls to pour our bubble solution into and then added the food coloring to each bowl. Add 1 to 2 drops depending how vibrant you want the colors to be. The more concentrated the solution, the more color that will come out when you blow the bubbles.
We used this concentrated food coloring which gives brighter colors.
NOTE: regular food coloring will not show up, the colors will be very dull and you will not see it on paper or canvas. You need concentrated food coloring or you can use liquid watercolors.
We also tested with liquid watercolor and found the food coloring to give the brightest colors. Also keep in mind that when blowing bubbles with kids the bubble solution can sometimes get on their mouths (if they blow too closely) so that is another reason we like using the food coloring.
3. Mix the food coloring with the bubble solution.
4. Now you can start blowing bubbles onto your paper or canvas.
Keep blowing bubbles until you fill all of the areas around your tape. You want those areas to have enough bubble prints that you can see the design when you pull off the tape.
If you want the large circle bubble shapes, make sure to now blow too closely to the paper. Blow over top the paper and let the bubbles float down onto your page.
5. Carefully peel off the tape.
For the paper version, you’ll want to go really slowly when peeling off the tape to avoid ripping the paper.
