This Peeps Playdough recipe is a fun twist on regular playdough. You can use different Peeps colors to achieve different colored dough. If you have extra Peeps on hand after Easter, this is a fun sensory activity you can use them for!

Peeps Playdough Recipe
You only need a few ingredients, and it’s easy to make this Easter peeps playdough. The Peeps give the playdough color, so you don’t need food coloring to dye the dough.
Note
There are a few things to note about this playdough.
If you have never made playdough before, do not attempt this one first. Try our traditional playdough recipe or cloud dough first.
This is a fun activity for Easter but because it’s made from marshmallow, it can become sticky when playing with it and it doesn’t last as long as traditional playdough. This is fun to try once and especially around Easter time. And kids will love seeing the marshmallows get bigger before mixing them into a dough.
- This playdough is a lot more sticky than regular playdough. Keep adding cornstarch to the dough if it is sticking to your hands. You can also sprinkle some cornstarch down on your playing surface to prevent it from sticking to the table.
- The next day, the dough will turn hard. You can reheat in the microwave for 10 seconds to soften it up again.

What we love about this homemade Peeps playdough is that it’s taste-safe and edible. We don’t recommend eating it, however if a child does try to taste it, it is non-toxic.
As always, be sure to supervise the activity and do not allow children under 3 or children who put things in their mouths to play with it.
Ingredients Needed
Here are the ingredients you will need:
- Cornstarch
- Coconut oil
- Peeps – You will need 5 Peeps bunnies per color. If using the Peeps chicks instead of the bunnies, you will need 6 Peeps (they are a little smaller than the Peeps bunnies).
How to Store Peeps Playdough
Keep the playdough in an airtight container. Wrap in plastic wrap first and then place inside a bag and get any excess air out. The dough will turn hard the next day, but you can reheat in the microwave for 10 seconds to make it soft again. Let it cool before playing with it again as it will be hot to touch.
How long does Peeps playdough last?
The dough should keep for at least a week. After that, we recommend putting it in your green bin.

How to Make Peeps Playdough
Note: Adults should microwave the coconut oil and marshmallows. Get your kids involved by having them mix the ingredients, under supervision. Use a spoon to mix and be careful not to touch the oil or Peeps when still hot.
1. Melt Coconut Oil
Heat 1 tablespoon of coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl until it becomes liquid.
This usually takes about 30 seconds in the microwave. Be careful not to touch the oil when still hot.
2. Microwave the Peeps
Take 5 peeps of the same color and remove the chocolate eyes. If using the Peeps chicks, use 6 chicks (they are slightly smaller than the bunnies).
Place the peeps in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave them for 30 seconds to soften them.
This is the fun part for kids! Kids will love to see the Peeps expand and get bigger.
3. Add Cornstarch
Add 4 tablespoons of cornstarch to the melted coconut oil and softened peeps.
Kids can help mix the dough at the point but make sure the Peeps and oil are not hot.
4. Mix and Form Dough
Mix everything together until it starts forming a ball. It will still be very sticky at this stage.
Add 1 additional tablespoon of cornstarch and continue mixing until it forms a dough-like consistency.
5. Knead the Playdough
Sprinkle some cornstarch on your work surface to prevent sticking.
Transfer the dough onto the surface and knead it until smooth.
You may need to sprinkle more cornstarch to keep it from sticking to your hands when playing.
6. Roll out the Dough
Once the dough is smooth and pliable, roll it out into the desired shape.
Repeat these steps for each color of playdough you want to make.
Then kids can use cookie cutters and rolling pins to play with it!
Note – if the dough becomes sticky again after playing with it, just sprinkle a bit more cornstarch and knead in. The dough will become hard after one day, but you can reheat it in the microwave for 10 seconds to make it soft again. Make sure to let it cool before playing with it as it will be very hot to touch.
