Kids of all ages will love making these fingerprint Mother’s Day cards! If crafting with little ones, assemble the paper cards ahead of time and guide them in making the fingerprint petals. Older kids can help cut out and glue the paper stems, pots, and flower centers!

Fingerprint Card for Mother’s Day
This accordion-folded card is simple to make and is the perfect card to accompany any gift this Mother’s Day. They they would look great with a bouquet of flowers or a even a few seed packets as a gift. You can also pair it with our handprint flower bouquet.

You can also customize these cards to include fingerprints from multiple kids on one card. Designate one flower for each child to make the fingerprint petals and write their name on the flower pot.
Or, each child can create their own card making all the flower petals themselves. Mix and match colors of petals, flower centers, and background paper to make these cards unique!
Supplies Needed:
- Colored cardstock – we used 12″ by 12″, but 8 1/2″ by 11″ also works
- Brown craft paper – for the flower pots
- Gluestick
- Scissors
- Paint – non-toxic paint in a variety of colors (tempera or acrylic works best)
- Markers – in a few shades, for writing Mother’s Day messages
- Pencil – for tracing the templates onto paper
- Ruler – to measure the cards
- Wooden skewer – or bone folder to crease the paper before folding
- Printable templates – found at the bottom of the post

How to Make a Mother’s Day Fingerprint Card
1. Cut out rectangles.
- Cut your cardstock into 4″ by 12″ rectangles if you are using 12″ x 12″ paper.
- You can also use 8 1/2″ x 11″ paper – the cards will just be a bit smaller. In this case, cut into 4″ x 11″ rectangles.
2. Crease the cards.
- Use the ruler and a pencil to make light tick marks along both of the 12″ sides of the rectangle, 3″ apart.
- Use the ruler and pointed end of the wooden skewer to crease along the tick marks, forming 4 segments on the paper rectangle.
- If you’re working with a 4″ x 11″ card, do the same thing but in 2 3/4″ increments along both 11″ sides.
Erase the pencil marks and fold along the creases, accordion style.
3. Cut out the paper shapes.
Print and cut out the templates found at the bottom of this post.
Trace and cut out the stems on green cardstock, the plant pots on brown craft paper, and the flower centers in whatever color you’d like.
Each card needs 4 of each shape.
4. Assemble the cards.
Apply glue onto the back of the green stem and place it slightly lower than the center in the first segment of the card.
Glue the brown plant pot below the stem, so that it slightly overlaps the bottom of the stem.
Glue the flower center above the top of the green stem.
Repeat for the remaining segments on the card, or for additional cards.
5. Fingerpaint the flower petals.
Squeeze a small blob of non-toxic tempera paint onto a palette, paper plate, or scrap of paper.
Guide your child in gently dipping their finger into the paint and then using their finger as a stamp to make flower petals around the center of the flower.
Depending on your paint and how much is on your child’s finger, you may get a few petals from one dip, or prefer to reapply the paint to the finger each time.
Set the cards aside to dry completely.
6. Write Mother’s Day messages.
Use a marker to write “Happy”, “Mother’s”, “Day!”, and “Love, Child’s Name” onto each plant pot.
Or, if this is a card from multiple children and each child did fingerprints on one flower, write each child’s name on the plant pot below their flower.
On the back of the card, there is lots of room for more special messages.
We liked using the phrases:
“Thank you for helping me grow!” and “If moms were flowers, I’d pick you!” to tie in with the flower theme.
It’s also a good idea to include the date on the card somewhere so that you’ll remember how old the children were when they fingerpainted the card!
We love how these look standing up on the table, too!
