If your kids love to paint, then you have to try this puffy paint recipe. It’s easy to make on your own with only 3 ingredients. Kids will also love creating their own 3D images with this paint!

Puffy Paint Recipe
You will be surprised how easy it is to make. You only need 3 ingredients and it’s easy to make different colors. Make a large batch and split it up to make different colors, or make each color on its own.
You can also place the paint into squeeze bottles and use it to write with!

How To Make Puffy Paint
Here are the supplies you will need:
- White Glue
- Shaving Cream
- Food Coloring – we like to use this liquid food coloring gel since it’s concentrated and makes the colors really vibrant. You can also use acrylic paint or washable paint to color.
- White Cardstock
- Templates – get the templates at the bottom of the post

How Long Will it Last?Â
The shaving cream will start to dissipate after time, so we do recommend you use the paint the same day. After you are done painting, let the paint dry and it will dry with a 3D effect.
The 3D effect will last on paper for quite awhile (up to a week), however over time the 3D effect will deflate leaving you with a more traditional painting.
If you’re only making the paint for one child, halve the recipe below so that you do not have as much leftover. Alternatively, you can make one larger batch and then split it into smaller containers to add the colors.
Note
The recipe below is for one color. Repeat this for each color you would like to make.
Puffy Paint Recipe
Materials
- 1/4 cup shaving cream
- 1/4 cup white glue
- 2 drops liquid gel food coloring – regular food coloring is fine to use but you may need more drops
Instructions
- Add 1/4 cup of shaving cream to a small bowl. If making for one child, you can halve this recipe. Alternatively, you can make a larger batch and then split into smaller bowls before adding the food coloring
- Add 1/4 cup of white glue to the small bowl.
- Add 1-2 drops of liquid gel food coloring. If using regular food coloring, you may need more drops.
- Mix the puffy paint until the food coloring has been fully mixed in.
- If you would like to use the templates to paint, print them off on white cardstock.
- After you are done painting, allow your puffy paint art to dry for a day until it is no longer sticky to the touch.
